Special characters are not being displayed correctly in Excel. What can I do about it?
When you open the Excel or CSV file by double click, mostly formatting defaults are being applied. Importing the file into Excel (or another calculations programm) should solve the issue.

Please proceed as follows:

  1. We recommend: Export the data to a CSV file
  2. Open a new empty excel file
  3. Import the CSV file

Depending on the version of Excel you can find the import option in different places.

In Excel 2000 / 2002 / 2003, select the menu 'Extras', select 'Import External Data' then the sub-menu 'Import Data'. In Excel 2000, the menu items are called 'Data > Get External  Data > From Text'.

In Excel 2007/2010, select the tab 'Data', then select the menu field 'Get External Data > From Text'.

You can select the file from your computer. The import wizard will guide you. There is an option to choose the character encoding. Please select to UTF-8. You should define the field separator, too. You will need the semicolon as a field separator for proper imports.
