Activate personal access codes for the survey
In addition to a general password you can secure participation via personal access codes. You need the access codes, when ...
a) ... the survey should be protected from unauthorized access.
b) ... each participant should be allowed to take part only once.
c) ... the participants could probably interrupt the survey and complete it at a different location / device.
d) ... several participants share one computer, but must be enabled to participate in the survey exactly once.
Please proceed as follows, to limit the participation by access codes:
- Select the desired survey in the Overview
- Click on Settings
- Under 'Access Control' select the option 'Access code'
- Click Save settings
From now on, the participation is only possible with a personal access code. An access code will be required for the survey preview, too. Generate a manual code and use it to check the preview.
The personal access code can be generated in two ways and delivered to your participants:
1. Generate access codes manually
If you invite to the survey on your own, you can manually generate as many codes as you need and hand them out to your participants. Please proceed as follows, to generate the access codes:
- Select the desired survey in the Overview
- Click on Invite Participants
- Click on the tab 'Survey link (manual)'
- Scroll down to the 'Access codes for the normal survey link and / or Multi-Links'
- Enter the desired number codes
- Click Generate
Or create your own code list in XLS and upload it to the system by using the "Upload your own codes" button.
The code list will be created and can be exported for manual distribution. If you need more, you can easily generate more codes. The list shows, which codes have already been used, and whether these participants have completed the survey.
2. Send access code automatically
With our email invitation tool, you can generate and send the codes automatically. If you activated this option, the placeholder for the code is set automatically as long as you have not changed the default text in the email invitation tool. If you already customized the standard text, you have to set the placeholder for the access code by yourself.
