Create and edit multilingual surveys

With multilingualism, you can create any survey in any number of languages and make it available to your participants. This means you only have to use one survey and can view the results as a whole or per language.

To create a second or additional language, please proceed as follows:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Questionnaire
  3. Click on the tab 'Text & languages'
  4. Click on the green plus button
  5. Select the new language and the language from which the new language is to be created Click on  Save

As soon as you have added another language, you will see an overview of the new language next to the previous language. This allows you to use the translation very clearly and easily or have the texts translated using automatic translation.

Automatic translation (Deepl)
Each created language is displayed as an individual column. To translate the desired language automatically, click on the "Translate" button at the top of the column for the desired language. Here you can now select the target language into which the texts should be translated. Click on the "Preview" button to start the translation and you will see a preview of the result. Click on "Apply" to accept the translation.

Technical data protection information:
  • We use the DeepL API interface. This means that the texts that are to be translated will be sent by us via API call to DeepL for translation.

  • All texts sent to DeepL are deleted immediately after translation and are not processed further or used by DeepL (no training data)

  • The texts from the questionnaire will only be sent if you actively want to translate the texts. In other words, you must start the translation process yourself.

Delete language
If you want to delete a language, click on the “X” icon at the top of the language. This will delete the created language version from the survey. Immediately after deletion, the language is no longer available in the survey.

Viewing from the participant's perspective
Once a participant called the survey, the system tries to choose the right language for him. If the participant's language is not avialable in the survey, the system will show the default language. If you allowed to change the language, the participant can change the language to his favorite, among the provided.

Please proceed as follows, to disable the language switch:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Navigate down to the 'Multilingualism'
  4. Deactivate the option 'Participants can change the language during the survey'

Setting the default language
Providing the best possible service for the participant, the system automatically tries to assign the right language to each new participant. If no matching language is found, the default language will be displayed to the participant. When you choose the default language, you specify the language for all visiors, without the possibility of an automatic language assignment, e.g. for Icelandic.

Please proceed as follows, to set the default language:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Navigate down to the 'Multilingualism'
  4. Select the language to be stored as the default language

Hint
If you adapt the questionnaire to another language it is always adapted from the default language of the questionnaire. If you add a third language after the second, you can specify the language from which the new one should originate. This is performed by changing the default language.
