Create and Edit Multilingual Surveys

With the option 'multilingualism' you can create surveys in any number of languages. You will need only one survey for several languages and be able to view the results as a whole, or filtered by individual languages.

Please proceed as follows, to create a second or additional language:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on the tab 'Text & Multilingualism'
  4. Select in the left side a new language
  5. Click  Save

Once you have added a new language, the constructed questionnaire will duplicate automatically. In the multilingualism settings you can edit or customize the static text for each language, if necessary.

In your questionnaire, you can switch the language of the questionnaire by click the left button on top.

Functioning of multilingualism
After creating a new language the questionnaire is copied 1:1. No matter which language you will continue working from now, the questionnaire will automatically update into every language.

Example
You create a questionnaire of 4 pages in 'English' and add 'Spanish' as the second language. From now on, you can switch from 'English' to 'Spanish' in the questionnaire. After switiching to 'Spanish' you still see the same questionnaire (questions & texts) in English. The questionnaire has duplicated, now you can start to translate the texts into Spanish language.

After you have translated all questions & texts into Spanish, you might want to add another question. It doesn´t matter in which language you will do this. When you add a new question in the Spanish view, it will automatically replicate in the English view. You only need to translate the text to the other language(s). The automatic copying of the elements into the different languages ensures that each participant gets the identical questions in the questionnaire. All you have to do, is translate your textual input.

Please proceed as follows, to remove a language:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on the tab 'Text & Multilingualism'
  4. Click by the language you want to delete the 'X' icon

The language replication is deleted for the chosen language.

Viewing from the participant's perspective
Once a participant called the survey, the system tries to choose the right language for him. If the participant's language is not avialable in the survey, the system will show the default language. If you allowed to change the language, the participant can change the language to his favorite, among the provided.

Please proceed as follows, to disable the language switch:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Navigate down to the 'Multilingualism'
  4. Deactivate the option 'Participants can change the language during the survey'

Setting the default language
Providing the best possible service for the participant, the system automatically tries to assign the right language to each new participant. If no matching language is found, the default language will be displayed to the participant. When you choose the default language, you specify the language for all visiors, without the possibility of an automatic language assignment, e.g. for Icelandic.

Please proceed as follows, to set the default language:

  1. Select the desired survey in the  Overview
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Navigate down to the 'Multilingualism'
  4. Select the language to be stored as the default language

Hint
If you adapt the questionnaire to another language it is always adapted from the default language of the questionnaire. If you add a third language after the second, you can specify the language from which the new one should originate. This is performed by changing the default language.
