A slider is a question type that allows participants to select a value on a continuous or discrete scale.
It enables finely graded assessments — such as of mood, satisfaction, or intensity — and can be customized in terms of scale range, increment size, and negative and positive values.
Visual aids such as icons or labels further help participants navigate the question and make data entry even more intuitive.
Settings and options of the slider:
Scale values and increment steps
Here, define the scale values from left to right and specify the increments in which they can be selected. You can also have the scale start with a negative value and end in the positive range.
Visual cues
Instead of descriptive text on the positive and negative sides of the slider, you can display icons.
Required question
With this option, you can designate the question as required. The respondent must answer the question before proceeding to the next page of the survey.
Help Icon (Tooltip)
With this option, you can display help text or additional information behind a help icon next to the question title.
Additional text field below the question
This option allows you to provide a text field for comments directly below the question. The width and height (number of lines) of the text field can be set freely.
“No Answer” Option
This option is particularly useful if the question has been defined as a required question. It allows the respondent to “answer” the question even if they do not wish to provide a substantive response, and to continue with the survey.
Upload Image
You can place an image directly within the question.
Advantage: The image can be displayed between the question and the answer choices, in addition to the standard image upload feature in the questionnaire.
You can also adjust the image’s orientation, set its position (above or below the question title), and assign an ALT attribute, which is important for survey accessibility.
